There are few new faces on our Turf Care team this aeration as we recently hired three new staff to replace the five students returning to the university. Our senior staff did a fantastic job balancing the tasks of aeration while mentoring the new team members. We are excited about our team heading into the fall and feel we will have a strong finish to the golf season. Below is a summary of aeration tasks completed during the closure.
Greens
- Core aerated with 1/2 hallow tines
- Cleaned up cores using a core harvester and back pack blowers
- Topdressed with 1mm premium sand – applied approximately 80 metric tons
- Brushed in sand and used turbine blowers to work sand across the greens filling all the holes
- Cleaned up the perimeter of the greens – blew excess sand, cleaned out sprinkler heads and blew cores out of bunkers
- Applied granular fertilizer and amendments to promote recovery
Tees
- Core aerated with 1/2 hollow tines
- Cleaned up cores using a core harvester and backpack blowers
- Topdressed with 3mm washed sand – applied approximately 80 metric tons
- Brushed in sand and used in turbine blowers to work sand across the tees filling the holes
- Cleaned up the perimeters – blew excess sand and cleaned out sprinkler heads
- Applied granular fertilizer and amendments to promote recovery
Fairways + Approaches
- Deep tined all fairways + approaches (except #10, 17, 18) with 3/4 solid tines at a depth of 7-8″
- Core aerated #9, 10, 17, 18 with 3/4 hollow tines to a depth of 3-4″
- Topdressed #9, 10, 17, 18 with 3mm washed sand – applied approximately 80 metric tons
- Brushed in sand with steel drag mat and used turbine blowers to cleanup excess
- Sprayed fertilizer and amendments to promote recovery
